What are Dental Implants?

3d render of dental implantsDental Implants are specialized posts that typically consist of body-safe titanium. Implants are unlike any tooth replacement solution as they are the only option that becomes a permanent part of your jaw. This sets them apart with high success rates, comfortability, and versatility.

Dental implants consist of three parts: the implant post, the abutment, and the final restoration. The implant post is placed into the jawbone, serving as the tooth root. The abutment is a tiny, screw-like piece responsible for connecting the restoration to the implant post.

The restoration is the final piece of a dental implant. It is created to look, feel, and function exactly as a natural part of your smile. Depending on your needs, your restoration could be a crown, bridge, or denture.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

Once surgically placed in the jaw, implant posts fuse naturally with living tissue and bone in a process called osseointegration. It is this bonding that allows implants to become a permanent part of your jaw. This also helps dental implants provide a secure and lasting foundation for your new tooth or teeth.

What Are The Benefits of Dental Implants?

For example, replacing missing tooth roots restores essential stimulation to your jawbone. This, in turn, helps stop jawbone shrinking and weakening. Preservation of your jaw’s structure also keeps natural facial features from sagging and taking on a more prematurely aged looking appearance.

Filling in the gaps left from missing teeth keeps neighboring teeth from shifting out of place. This preserves your bite and chewing ability, promoting proper digestion. Aside from their many benefits, dental implants can give you a beautiful and healthy smile again, allowing you to enjoy a life of improved self-confidence and overall well-being.

Who Can Get Dental Implants?

However, your jawbone must be strong and dense enough to hold dental implants successfully. Fortunately, a weakened jaw doesn’t mean that you can’t still benefit from implant treatment! At the practice of Simerdeep Gill, DDS, we do all we can to help you qualify for dental implants.

Dr. Gill will evaluate everything from your teeth and gums to your jawbone during your consultation. From there, she determines the best course of action to ensure your tooth replacement needs are met.

If you require treatments such as a bone graft, our dentist collaborates with the right specialists. We can refer you to a trusted oral surgeon or periodontist to ensure you’re on the right path towards successful implant treatment.

What Implant Restorations Do You Offer?

Once you’ve healed from implant placement, we invite you back to our office to place your custom restoration. Dr. Simerdeep Gill and our team are proud to provide implant-supported restorations of the highest quality and make. By doing so, we can ensure your new tooth or teeth are fabricated to the unique characteristics of your smile. Our available solutions include:

With our restorations, we can replace everything from one tooth to an entire smile of missing teeth. Each crown, bridge, and denture we provide is crafted from beautiful and durable porcelain materials.

Implant-Supported Crowns

When a tooth is already missing, implant-supported crowns can restore it completely. Crowns attached to a single implant provide a complete tooth structure designed to last and blend seamlessly with the rest of the smile.

Implant-Supported Dental Bridges

When you have several teeth missing in a row, Dr. Gill will likely recommend an implant-supported bridge. These restorations can include three to five porcelain crowns attached to two dental implants on each end of the gap.

By replacing several lost teeth, permanent implant bridges also restore a proper bite, improve chewing, and keep neighboring teeth in place.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dr. Gill offers several implant dentures options when few to no teeth remain in your smile. If you have multiple teeth missing, partial dentures are often ideal. They consist of numerous porcelain teeth resting on a pink acrylic base, designed to match the rest of your smile.

Full or complete implant-supported dentures are ideal when all teeth in your smile are missing. These restorations can replace lost teeth in the upper or lower jaws, or both. We provide customized full dentures attached to six to eight dental implants.
